MG Siegler is not defensive at all:

I don’t know about you, but when I read my favorite technology writers, I want an opinion. Is the iPhone 4S the best smartphone, or is it the Galaxy Nexus? I need to buy one, I can’t buy both. Topolsky never gives us that. Instead, he pussyfoots around it. One is great at some things, the other is great at others. Barf.

Fucking pick one. I bet that even now he won’t.

First, MG Siegler should read some of Marco Arment’s sage words:

Previous-me tried to persuade everyone to switch to my setup, but I now know that it’s not worth the effort. I’ll never know someone else’s requirements, environment, or priorities as well as they do. I don’t know shit about Windows or Outlook or architecture.

You should use whatever works for you. And I no longer have the patience or hubris to convince you what that should be. All I can offer is one data point: what I use, and how it works for me.

That’s why it’s important to know what a phone is good for and what it’s not. Because people don’t all have the same preferences and needs. I mean, fundamentally, that’s the problem with the “you see it or you don’t” line. That’s the problem with picking a “best”. And that problem is what Topolsky was really getting at, not the class warfare stuff.

Second, if MG Siegler is your favorite tech writer, you already know what phone you’re going to buy. You’re not there for a review. You’re there for a predetermined conclusion with some adolescent prepubescent snark thrown in. You don’t even have to actually read to know what his opinion is going to be. Most likely, you’re just waiting for the next infomercial on CrunchFund’s latest investment.
